I have been reading a little history. If you are not in the mood to be depressed don’t look at Napolean’s history and Great Britains’ history. In both areas there are times when the downfall came from arrogance and self-righteousness.
The thing is, most of the bad stuff happens with little notice. Think of the million times you read something that looked like a bad thing about to happen… and then forgot about it. It no longer existed in your world. You didn’t hear about it anymore and, therefore, it doesn’t exist. Katrina may be a good example. That place is still really trashed and the people who lived there are still really fucked. But you have work and family, groceries and bills, traffic and fear to deal with.
This is essentially the problem. You don’t feel a difference. During WWII Americans felt what was going on. They sacrificed. What have you sacrificed today? I haven’t sacrificed one fucking thing. Neither have you.
If you went and typed “Iraq, ” “War,” “Blog,” etc…etc.. You would see that this thing is very real. It is extremely complex (Much more complex than a news report can sum up in 2 minutes). It is more than Us vs them. The problem is that most of us think this way.
How many know the history of Iraq? How many know an Iraqi? How many understand them? How many truly understand what is going on there? I know I don’t. I try real hard. I read more than my heart can stomach. I still don’t know what the hell to do.

Don’t let it get you down. This particular lunacy has only been going on for less than a couple of thousand years. Humans do this shit over and over. The first Mahmoud and John and Aaliyah and Shirley were fighting ove berries more than 6 million years ago. Osama is drawing on caves today because he’s smarter than most folks. He doesn’t give a shit about your petty squabbles. He’s an annihilistic son of a bitch whose dreams are quite more empty than his conscience seems to be. People have a hard time remembering what they did last night in the modern world, but in the primitive world, there are some who are still hunting down and killing the descendents of Ghengkis Khan and Pope Innocent III. I know I am.

You sound like Marsha Brady in a tizzy- “Greg told those silly Americans they’re doomed to repeat the past- why won’t they listen?” -or- “Why are people cruel?- Don’t those meanies know the poor Katrina victims were perfectly content being useless, and those evil weather men shouldn’t have made the storm go there. Pants- Hang some kitten and pony posters next to your Mac, it will pacify your pubescent outlook on American issues.
What you need is some good ‘ol American stress to slap you out of your 4 yr daydream. Stop loathing your species, the planet will be fine in a million years long after we’re all gone. Think of humans as a rash on the young Earth. In the distant future, terra firma will have plenty of oil in the ground for the hoofed mammels to graze above. Of course the sunsets won’t be as nice with the clean air, and the weather will be boring.

When you described my ‘pubescent’ outlook on American issues I became quite confused. Maybe if you explain your mature, rational outlook to me I will become like you… enlightened.
Minus the ‘liberal pussy’ charicature you paint of me in the first 2 paragraphs, I couldn’t agree with you more. The last paragraph you wrote deserves the “truthiness” award for the 2007 season. Let’s get this shit over with! Bring on the Bomb!!!!
