I spoke in a past post about the Norwegian Government ‘giving’ each student a laptop by next year. Well, with a little more information, I found out another interesting thing about it. It turns out that for three years (and correct me if I am wrong) the students must pay 800 kroner, roughly $120 for them. Still not a bad deal eh? The idea is to go digital with most aspects of learning. Papers, tests, exercises will be done online. What I like the most is that one computer offered is a Mac. Sweet.
I am riding high on the ‘ol tech trail. This is what I dreamed about for years. The idea that I can teach using technology is something I would pay to do… Now, it’s not that I believe that technology will cure all ills. It’s just that, given today’s world, it makes sense. My true choice would be to sit in the woods and teach, using all that we have around us to gain knowledge. Seriously! Living on the land, and being a teacher, would probably teach any child the fundamentals plus much much more.
Students now are visual. They want to interact and feel connected to what they are doing. This is what I aim to do this year. My outline for the year is basic now, but with creativity as my guide, I hope to really slam these kids with knowledge. I know it sounds a little dumb but, I want to have a year that will make others look and say, ” Wow. That guy’s teaching is fucking awesome.”
