Don’t Tell Me What the Poets are Doing (eating ass)

faustroll.pngFROM:
I really liked this post and had to repost it over here.

“Everything in life is a game, and like life, most of the games mean nothing. Gordon Osing liked the refrain, understanding the obviousness of what playing ball means. I think this poem is included in Stinking and Full of Eels, Some Accident Between the Grass and My Feet, and Disturbances. It is NOT included in Contemporary Poets in America, which was edited by Miller Williams’ (you know, Cindy’s dad, who read at Slick Willie’s inauguration), although, to be fair, none of my poetry is included in that anthology. I guess this is because I never graduated from Arkansas with an M.F.A. and published a book of poems by a reputable publisher.

I don’t think so. Miller was always a lying sack of shit. I’m sure you didn’t see it here first.

It’s nothing big
You got to have the right attitude is all

First you got to learn the games
There’s shuffleboard hoop scotch jump rope
Tiddly winks truth dare consequence promise or repeat
And of course there’s ball

After a while you go to school
At school you learn to read and write
To sign the necessary forms
And math
To do the figuring

Soon you are ready for work
It’s a good thing to remember it’s smart
To learn to like your work
You will be together for a long time

After forty years you’ll be old enough
For shuffleboard again

There’s really nothing to it
Unless of course you decide to be a poet
In which case you have to begin as follows

First you got to learn the games
There’s shuffleboard hoop scotch jump rope
Tiddly winks truth dare consequence promise or repeat
And of course there’s ball”

Amazing Station

by Dr. Pants on Jul.13, 2007, under Life and the Universe

myipodHere’s a recent recording of my friend Brad who was around a lot during the 90’s.. He’s a big guy now. Rich and powerful… He’s funny. He likes beer and Tugboat Annie.

That’s rich. …Like a squirrel on water skis.

Speaking of the 90’s ….

We actually got some sun today. It did rain but, at least, the sun showed itself for a little while. I took the kids and Deb to her mom’s house for a visit. When I got home the VLC media player was still sitting on my desktop. I, not sure what to do with the blessed time, decided to see what this underratted media player had to offer. I clicked on :

1. File> Services Directory> Shoutcast Radio Listings.

2. I then clicked on the button at the right of the player.

3. Scanning down to Alternative section I then clicked..

4. OH! What did I see?!! A shit load of radio stations…

5. Of course I chose ‘Big R Radio- 90’s Alternative…

6. It was like I flashed back to a time I remember fondly. I immediately opened a beer. This thing is really playing some fantastic music. Many songs I had forgotten about.

In a row I heard:

Tool- Sober

Urge Overkill- Sister Havana

Porno For Pyros- Pets

K’s Choice- Not an Addict

Alice in Chains- I Stay Away.

School of Fish- 3 Strange Days. It’s not like all of these are my favorites of all time.. It’s just that I used to play and hear this shit all the time back in the 90’s.

So many memories… Some songs are from when I was on college radio, some, while I was in the military, some I remember just completely going crazy listening to loud and drunk… Memories..
