Funny Lookin

On January 21, 2006, in Politics, by Dr. Pants

I absolutely love my new website. My buddy Dan and I have been battling it out for years about politics and what not. Why not do it online?  Honestly I know we are not the best debaters.. but we argue with style.  I love how, if you know someone long enough, and well enough, insults and jabs become part of everyday conversation. I love that. I fucking love that.

Now, I know we haven’t started with ground breaking material… but the base is being built. We are creating content for all to enjoy. Maybe, just maybe, this little site will become a place for all to enjoy, regardless of their politcal leanings.

You know what I like too?  Poop.

Bird Flu

On January 19, 2006, in Life and the Universe, Norway, by Dr. Pants

I’ll tell ya. It’s been snowing like cocaine at a Nicole Richie party. Sure it’s not anything like back in Buffalo, but it’s a shit-load to say the least. From the room I sit in I can see one of the ski places with their lights on and snow machine firing. I bet it is some pretty sweet skiing right now.

As for a follow up on the last post… Someone posted this today:

Thought I’d try a new debate…..

I think the world is over populated and that this Bird Flu will become a pandemic. Its actually a good thing as it is a natural way of culling our population.

Think of the benefits:

- Oil prices go down as there is less demand
- Fish species get to rise to normal levels again
- Flat screens for half price
- Ozone layer repaired
- Less waiting for paper work to be cleared at Norwegian government offices.

It’s a win-win really!

P.S. And fish oil will have less pollutants also ;)

My response:

I really am shocked! Is it just the birds causing this or are other animals involved? Let’s not generalize. Sure facts are facts, but we have many birds here who haven’t hurt anyone. Our fine feathery friends offer so much.

The pigs have something to do with it too.

I got a few laughs from that one.

I have a new forum up and not quite running at theduder.com. I’m gonna slap a few google ads in the thing and see if I can get a bunch of people to fill it up with life stories and advice for foreigners moving to Norway. At least this thing will be more than just a mass mailing dealy. People will be able to get e-mails to specific questions rather than all the topics brought up. I think it will be very helpful. I’m sure I’ll let you know when it is up.

Misunderestimating

On January 17, 2006, in Life and the Universe, Norway, by Dr. Pants

I belong to this forum in yahoo called "New To Oslo." I think the idea is a great one. Connect people from other countries, living in a new one,  to each other so they may share their experience and knowledge about anything under the sun. Today I saw someone ask where they could find mustard seed. Sure enough, someone answered them.

It’s also a great place to meet up with others like yourself. They have a monthly ‘pub’ night where everyone gets together to share stories and meet face-to-face.

It’s also a place where people can discuss topics that may be difficult to discuss with people in your new adopted country.

Well, being the wonderful person I am, decided to post a link to a news articles about how there has been an ever increasing rate of rapes in Norway, Sweden and several other countries by immigrants of Muslim descent. I posted it with this message:

Very scary and interesting. I haven’t seen this in the papers here but find the news disturbing enough to pass it on. I hope we all keep an open mind and remember a small few’s actions  don’t represent everyone.  And yes. it is a Conservative Zine.. Take it all with a grain of salt.

Link

I checked several sources online that found this information to have some merit.

Well, all hell broke loose after that. I was told this stuff wasn’t appropriate for the forum, I was offending people and that this was all a joke. In other words, people reacted.. many as if they didn’t even read what I had written.

Many jumped in and a few, one who is Muslim, defended my point. I simply wanted to ask and discuss whether others had encountered or read about this.

Then, I got this e-mail from a girl I met in town who is in the forum… She said something to me that made a whole lot of sense.

Whenever you bring up a minority group, people feel that they are being "objective" by just defending the minority, but they don’t care to analyze the issue at hand and therefore become very subjective in their opinions. It is no different than when you bring up the boy/girl issue. Let’s face it, there are things boys are better at than girls–it’s been proven, but don’t ever say that to a feminist! You’ll only get arguments that have no proof. I believe in equal rights, but I am a realist as well!

Amen to that..
